Become a member

As a member there are some things you should know, such as the purpose of the Chorus and what will be asked of you as a member.  Even though we are a volunteer organization, some of the requirements help us present a professional performance which in turn helps to keep the Chorus in sound financial condition.  You will also be presented with optional opportunities.  So, read on, and welcome!

PURPOSE

The Ozaukee Chorus is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the advancement of choral music education.  Our net proceeds from the choral engagements are to be used as money scholarships to be presented to high school level students from Ozaukee County who are endeavoring to further their musical education

REQUIREMENTS

DUES:  $35.00 per semester (nonrefundable).  There are two semesters per year.

REHEARSALS:  The Fall Semester usually begins the second Tuesday of September at 7:00 pm and goes through the concert date in early December.  After approximately four weeks off for Christmas, the Spring Semester begins around the second Tuesday in January and goes through the concert date in early May.  There are no rehearsals in the summer.  Rehearsals for the entire Chorus begin at 7:00 p.m. and last until 8:30 p.m.  If necessary, rehearsals for small groups, ensembles, or sections of the Chorus will meet before or after the time mentioned above.  Rehearsals are held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton.  Rehearsal schedules showing location, performance date and location are distributed with membership sign up.

ATTENDANCE:  Five (5) absences are allowed per semester.  Barring extenuating circumstances, if you are absent more than five times you may be asked not to perform at the concert that semester.

CONCERTS:  There are two concerts per year, in early December and in early May.  Admission fees are usually $8.00 for everyone over the age of 12; children under the age of 12 are admitted free of charge.

SELLING ADVERTISING:  The Chorus raises a substantial portion of its funds by selling advertising to local businesses.  All Chorus members are expected to approach friends, relatives, and businesses for the purpose of selling ad space in the Spring Concert program booklet.  This money pays for Chorus expenses and for the scholarships awarded at the May concert.  A packet of information will be given to you in the Spring semister.  Most area businesses, once they understand who the Ozaukee Chorus is and what its goals are, gladly purchase an ad.

CONCERT DRESS: Men and women are requested not to wear cologne, perfume, hair spray or other highly fragrant substances during performances so as not to cause problems with Chorus members who may have allergies. The Chorus may ask the members to dress in a certain manner for the concert such as:

WOMEN:  Blouses are worn for both the Christmas and May concerts; with the type and color determined during the semester.    The women each supply their own black stockings (NO knee highs, please!) and black comfortable shoes.

MEN:  You may be required to wear a black tuxedo or suit or dress jacket, a white formal shirt, black socks, and black dress shoes.
